That's right folks, online registration for this year's event is officially CLOSED. Didn't get your registration in, but still want to attend the event? Passes will be available at the door--weekend passes for $110 and dance passes for $35. Show up so you don't miss out!

Housing announcements will go out on Monday night (March 26). Please be sure to get in contact with your host (or hostees) as soon as possible so that everything gets taken care of.

Don't forget that we will have special vendors for the weekend, so you'll want to bring a little spending money, and that we'll have  all sorts of fancy things worth dressing up for on Saturday night (and all weekend, really), so you'll want to bring some nice clothes. And don't forget your dancing shoes! We're going to be doing a lot of that.

The time is near and the event's almost here--see y'all  in Nashville!

            Insanely exciting updates! 03/21/2012

With only 9 days left until Cumberland Shuffle begins, we've got even MORE exciting updates for you! That's right, we're so committed to making this year the best ever that we're working right up to the wire, adding great things wherever we can.

First and foremost, registration closes at 11:59PM on Sunday, March 25. That means that you have just about 4 days left to make sure that you don't miss out on all the exciting things we have planned! We will have passes available for sale at the event if you don't make the registration deadline, but why wait? Secure your spot by registering now!

Secondly, we have less than 10 spots left for guaranteed housing. While we will certainly try our best to make sure our out-of-town guests have a place to stay, we have a limited amount of housing. Interested in staying in a hotel? There are plenty of options near to the venues, both of which are in downtown Nashville. Within less than a mile, you can find a Marriott, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, and even some ritzier options. Contact us if you need to change your housing arrangements or have any questions, we'll be glad to help!

Last, but certainly not least (and probably the most exciting of all)--we are proud to announce that the sneaky new well-loved assemblage of musicians known as the Low Down Sires will be playing for us at the Saturday late night! That's right, you get two bands for the low, low price of one, all on Saturday night! We'll be dancing all night long to some of the best live music the Southeast has to offer!

Obviously, Cumberland Shuffle 2012 is going to be a weekend not to miss. It's coming up quick!

            Vintage Night! 03/08/2012
            0 Comments

Here at Cumberland Shuffle, we embrace all good things old-timey. From the music, to the dancing, even to the clothing, we want to make sure that you all get your fill of old-timeyness!

That's why we're officially declaring Saturday night Vintage Night! You already know that we'll have a spectacular band and delicious late-night food, but we'll also be featuring a few performances, as well as other surprises that you'll find out more about later! All in all, it will definitely be an affair worth dressing up for.

To help encourage you to dress your vintage (or repro, or vintage-inspired) best, we'll be holding a Vintage Dress Contest on Saturday evening! All night long, we'll tally votes from the crowd--instructors and band included--to find out who amongst you is the best-dressed of the evening. There will be two winners, one for feminine dress and one for masculine dress (so, ladies, feel free to wear menswear if you'd like, and gentlemen, if you can rock a dress, we won't stop you), and they'll be chosen based on a few things: how closely their outfit holds to the aesthetic of the 1920s/30s/40s (we'll even turn a blind eye to your 1950s fashions); completeness of the look and attention to detail (your dress may be lovely, but a brooch would really help top it off!); and the overall appeal. While we love your mod shifts from the 1960s and your Edwardian gowns, those aren't quite the look we're aiming for, so leave 'em at home for Saturday night!

Still not inspired to dress your best? Well, you should be! Those lucky two winners of the Vintage Dress Contest won't just win the fame and glory and admiration of our old-timey attendees, they'll also win some fabulous prizes! Winners will each receive a pass to our fellow history-loving event, Nevermore Jazz Ball 2012 in St. Louis, MO, as well as a gift certificate for Dancestore.com, purveyors of Aris Allen dance shoes and other vintage-inspired dancewear. Those are some pretty sweet prizes you can win, all just for making sure to dress up on Saturday night. And you were going to do that, anyway, weren't you? I mean, since you'll be dancing with those other people from all over...

That's right, the moment you've long been waiting for is here! Our amazing class topics have been announced, and you can view them on the Classes page.

This year, we'll be featuring dances from all over the historical spectrum, from long-legged Peabody to shuffle-y Balboa. Best of all, you'll get a wealth of information on all these topics, as we'll have multiple classes on many of these dances, so that you can get out there and Peabody all night long with confidence!

Of course, only those with full weekend passes will be able to attend the event, and we've got a limited amount of those available. Register today and make sure you don't miss out!

Get ready for some Honky Tonkin'! 02/25/2012
            0 Comments

Are you sticking around Nashville on Sunday night after Cumberland Shuffle? Do you like western swing music? Do you have a secret (or not-so-secret) fondness for the Rockabilly scene? Do you like taking your dancing out to the public, in bars and with live bands? Maybe you just want to see Peter Loggins flap his arms like a chicken and "battle" other bar patrons?

The good news is, you can have all that and more if you stick around for our Cumberland Shuffle celebrations on Sunday night. That's right, we're heading to Broadway in downtown Nashville to hit up all the local honky tonks! We'll go to Robert's Western World, maybe to Tootsie's, and wherever else your heart might desire. You'll get the chance to let your hair down and hang out with all the new friends you just made, and get some dancing in, too (if you feel like it). It's a very loosely-planned evening, but it's sure to be a good time--and while you don't have to dress the part, the local bar patrons certainly enjoy seeing dancers, especially if they've got a little bit of a vintage look to them. It's all part of the show, y'know?
Just to give you a taste of the sort of stuff you might hear downtown, check out the sound of Bob Wills &  his Texas Playboys playing Trouble in Mind. So sweet!

We've got quite a few things going on for Cumberland Shuffle this year, which means that we need someone to handle all those things. That's where a Master of Ceremonies comes in, and luckily, Cumberland Shuffle has managed to find quite the MC to help us, um, master our ceremonies. She's sassy, silly, well-dressed, and will have us all entertained the whole weekend long--that's right, we've got Lucy Lipstick!

Lucy Lipstick is a burlesque performer and entertainer who also dances vernacular jazz and lindy hop, always with a great big gorgeous smile. She loves making costumes and styling for the next show, and she especially loves a crowd. We're excited to have her, and she's excited to have all of you!

Don't miss out on all of Lucy's antics, make sure you register today! I mean, really, you want to miss out on such fabulousness as this? We didn't think so.
